Admissions

The Master of Public Health degree program welcomes applications for regular MPH students, as well as current DVM students at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM), current graduate students at Virginia Tech, and current MD students at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) who wish to pursue the MPH degree while completing their current degree. Different applicant types have different application procedures as described below. Regular MPH Applicants

Regular MPH applicants should use the following guidelines:


Deadlines (Regular MPH Applicants)

Regular MPH applicants may only apply for admission in the Fall semester. Applications for Spring and Summer admission are not currently accepted. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • November 15 (priority consideration). Supplemental materials are due by November 30.
  • January 15 (regular consideration). Supplemental materials are due by January 31.
  • April 1 (consideration on a space-available basis). Supplemental materials are also due by April 1.

Required Materials (Regular Master’s Applicants)
  • Online application. Applicants should select the MPH program.
  • Personal statement, 1-2 pages, uploaded in the online application.
  • Resume or CV, uploaded in the online application.
  • Transcripts from any institution other than Virginia Tech from which you have received or expect to receive a degree. Please upload scans of your official transcript in the online application.
  • 3 academic or professional letters of recommendation. Recommendations should be completed online, but paper forms and letters may also be mailed to the department at the address above.
  • GRE scores. The institution code is 5859, and there is no department code. There is no minimum score for applications to the MPH degree program; however, to ensure competitiveness, students are encouraged to have at least a combined score of 300 (new scoring) or 1000 (old scoring until August 2011).
  • English language test (TOEFL or IELTS). Required from most international applicants. Please visit the Graduate School website for university-wide minimum scores and requirements.

DVM/MPH Applicants

Current DVM students at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) who wish to pursue a simultaneous MPH degree should use the following guidelines:


Deadlines (DVM/MPH Applicants)

For DVM/MPH applicants, we accept applications for the Fall, Spring, and Summer I terms. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • November 15. Supplemental materials are due by November 30.
  • April 1. Supplemental materials are also due by April 1.
  • June 15. Supplemental materials are also due by June 15.

Required Materials (DVM/MPH Applicants)
  • Online application. Applicants should select the DVM/MPH program.

Simultaneous Degree Applicants

Current graduate students at Virginia Tech (except DVM students at VMRCVM or MD students at VTCSOM) who wish to pursue a simultaneous MPH degree should use the following guidelines:


Deadlines (Simultaneous Degree Applicants)

For Simultaneous Degree applicants, we accept applications for the Fall, Spring, and Summer I terms. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • November 15. Supplemental materials are due by November 30.
  • April 1. Supplemental materials are also due by April 1.
  • June 15. Supplemental materials are also due by June 15.

Required Materials (Simultaneous Degree Applicants)

Simultaneous degree applicants do not use the online application form, so all materials should be sent to our address above. The following materials are required:

  • MPH Simultaneous Degree Information Form. Please email Justin Bland at jebland@vt.edu for the form.
  • Personal statement, 1-2 pages.
  • Resume or CV.
  • Transcripts from any institution other than Virginia Tech from which you have received or expect to receive a degree.
  • 1 academic or professional letter of recommendation. Please have your recommender fill out a paper form in addition to the letter of recommendation.
  • Application for Simultaneous Degree. This form must be filled out and signed by your home department, then submitted to us with your application. If you are accepted to the MPH program, we will sign the form, and you must bring it to the Graduate School along with the required fee in order to complete your admission to the MPH program.

VTCSOM Applicants

Current MD students at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) who wish to pursue a dual MPH should use the following guidelines:


Deadlines (VTCSOM Applicants)

For MD students at VTCSOM, we accept applications for Fall, Spring, and Summer I terms. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • November 15. Supplemental materials are due by November 30.
  • April 1. Supplemental materials are also due by April 1.
  • June 15. Supplemental materials are also due by June 15.

Required Materials (VTCSOM Applicants)
  • Online application. Applicants should select the MPH program.
